A specific type of chemotherapy where a specific type of drugs is used to get rid of lymphoma is called Rice Chemotherapy. Different drugs are used in rice chemotherapy that can effectively reduce the anguish of a cancer patient and help him to fight against cancer. Carboplatin, etoposide and ifosfamide are the three major drugs that are used in this specific type of chemotherapy. But this therapy also incorporates some antibody drugs for example rituximab for enhancing the effectiveness of this therapy on cancer patients.

The antibody drugs Rituximab used in Rice chemotherapy can destroy the cancer cells of a patient with utmost accuracy and try hard to ensure that normal cells are not affected. They have been formulated in a different way so that they can distinguish between a normal cell and a cancer cell by analyzing certain proteins that can only be traced on the surface of cancer cells. After differentiating a cancer cell from the rest of the other cell, this anti body locks this cell and begins to galvanize the immunity system of body to destroy those cancer cells. This method is really unique and effective at the same time.

Rice chemotherapy treatment can be taken in a hospital and it doesn’t require a long time. Blood test is required before rice chemotherapy to determine the condition of kidney and health. This treatment is not painful at all.

Rice chemotherapy is obvious for another reason. The level of drugs can be reduced if a patient can feel any kind reaction during time of treatment.. If a patient feels inflammation in vein or bleeding, by applying mesna along with other drugs can be proved immensely helpful in reducing the severeness of these kinds of side effects. This thing is also available in tablet.

Rice chemotherapy is also subjected to side effects. There are dangerous side effects that have to be heeded with care. Vomiting and nausea are common side effect of almost every type of chemotherapy and these are also prevalent in this chemotherapy treatment. Anti-sickness drugs are given to eradicate these side effects. As this therapy reduces the production of white blood cells, it is indirectly hitting the immunity system of a patient. But the level of white blood cells becomes normal automatically within fifteen days. Loss of appetite, irritation, bleeding and anemia are some other common type of side effects of this chemotherapy.

ICE is used for some types of high grade lymphoma. Rituximab is often given with this combination and then it is called RICE. ICE is a combination of the chemotherapy drugs ifosfamide, carboplatin and etoposide. These are given by drip into a vein. Rituximab, is also given by drip. A stay in hospital for a few days is required to have this treatment. Usually three cycles are given. ICE and RICE are very effective form of chemotherapy treatments. As they can easily identify normal cells and affected cells, it aims to kill only cancer affected cells. Of course, all chemotherapy treatments are only after checking the physical condition of the patient.

One of the side effects of chemotherapy treatment is hair loss. Hair loss can be reduced but can not be avoided totally under chemotherapy treatment. There are different ways to cope with this hair loss. Some of cancer patients may be headscarf. Some other patients may decide to wear hat. Wearing hat is the best decision.

Chemotherapy Hats particularly hand-knitted are needed to help cancer patients during one of the most difficult parts of their treatment. According to American Cancer Society approximately 650,000 Americans receive chemotherapy treatment every year. They are subjected to hair loss during the treatment. Chemotherapy Hats or caps can help them.

Wearing special chemo caps can help suddenly-bald cancer patients feel like themselves again. Hats fend off the cold, as well as unwelcome stares. But, many cancer patients have a hard time finding hats that work. Hats sold at retail stores are often scratchy to bare skin because they are designed to be worn over a full head of hair. Also, standard headgear often fails to cover the entire back of the head, exposing the skin to the cold and making baldness obvious. Worse still: a lot of hats sold at retail stores contain wool, which can be harmful to highly sensitive cancer patients. What these patients need are chemotherapy hats designed just for their situation. Attractive, hand-knitted chemo hats for cancer patients allow them to go out in public feeling less self-conscious or cold.

Chemotherapy hat patterns that will cover a person’s entire head and are attractive enough for every day wear must be chosen. Hand knitted hats made up of soft yarn may be more useful to chemo patients.

A wide variety of fashionable Chemotherapy Hair Loss Hats are available to suit the occasion. There are also wigs available but these can be quite uncomfortable and many hats for cancer patients prefer to wear cancer hair loss hats as they are much easier to wear and are also quite comfortable.

Some Doctors prefer the Cold Cap System. This method is used for patients undergoing chemotherapy who want to have the best possible chance of retaining some of their hair. It works using a cold cap on the head to cool the scalp and prevent blood circulating to the hair follicles, this type of cap does vary between certain hospitals. The cold cap is put on the head at least 15 minutes before the chemotherapy treatment starts, to give it a chance of slowing the blood flow to the scalp. After the treatment has finished the cap is left on for between 1 and 2 hours after the chemotherapy. The cold cap is cold, and not everyone can stand it for that length of time and this is why it has been abandoned in some cases.

Patients lack financial resources to purchase suitable hand knitted headgear during the chemotherapy treatment. Some of the social organizations also provide the much needed hats for the chemo patients. As the patients’ heads are sensitive after chemo treatment, they require light weight soft hats made up of natural yarn. Ideal fabrics for chemo hats are cotton, terry, micro fleece, polar fleece, lightweight chiffon polyester and medium weight knits.

According to the report published by American Association for Cancer Research, patients with breast cancer may be developed anemia during chemotherapy treatment. Both chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments have less effect on anemic patients.

Fifty percent of cancer patients develop anemia, generally defined as a hemoglobin level <12 g/dl. The severity of anemia depends on many factors including the nutritional status of the patient, the type of cancer and the stage and extent of tumor burden.

The incidence and severity of anemia appear to vary with the type of cancer, the extent of the disease, and the myelosuppressive characteristics of the chemotherapy regimen. For example, the incidence of anemia associated with various treatment regimens for metastatic breast cancer ranges from 6% to as high as 98% for grades 1 and 2 anemia and from <1% to 80% for grades 3 and 4 anemia. Anemia is a common complication of myelosuppressive chemotherapy that results in a decreased functional capacity and quality of life for cancer patients. Severe anemia is treated with red blood cell transfusions, but mild-to-moderate anemia in patients receiving chemotherapy has traditionally been managed conservatively on the basis of the perception that it was clinically unimportant. This practice has been reflected in the relative inattention to standardized and complete reporting of all degrees of chemotherapy-induced anemia.

Anemia in cancer patients can result from many factors and the treatment must be individualized and accompanied by correction or management of simple nutritional deficiencies, underlying infectious or inflammatory processes, hemolytic diseases, occult blood loss, or hemolysis. The management of anemia resulting from myelosuppressive chemotherapy depends on its severity. Treatment options include crystalloid and hematinic treatment, RBC transfusion, epoetin alfa administration, or a combination of options. Platinum-based therapies, which are well recognized to cause anemia, continue to play a major role in the treatment of lung, ovarian, and head and neck malignancies.

Anemia is one of the most common and lasting side effects of chemotherapy. Chemotherapy can also attack healthy red blood cells (RBCs) and negatively impact the body’s ability to produce red blood cells. A lack of red blood cells can cause anemia. Anemia places extra demands on your body and can cause excessive tiredness or fatigue.

Common symptoms of anemia include Extreme tiredness, fatigue, Lack of energy, Dizziness, Headaches, Diminished sex drive, Rapid heartbeat, Inability to concentrate, Paleness, Shortness of breath and Coping with Anemia-Related Fatigue.

The anemia developed during chemotherapy can cause feelings of tiredness and fatigue that may interfere with everyday activities and leave you feeling frustrated and hopeless. Fatigue is one of the most common symptoms of anemia. Seventy-eight percent of chemotherapy patients experience fatigue. The anemia developed during chemotherapy is treatable.

One of the major side effects of chemotherapy is Anemia. The doctor can determine whether the patient is anemic by taking a Complete Blood Count (CBC) test. A CBC test measures the levels, or counts, of the different types of cells in the blood. This test will show whether the red blood cell level is normal.

Some of the precautions when found anemia during chemotherapy treatment are:

More rest is required. The heart rate slows down more quickly at the start of a rest period and more slowly when continued to rest. Thus, several short rests give the heart more frequent opportunities to beat more slowly. This helps you conserve your energy.

As good food gives necessary heal, it is advised to take good food and fluids to keep the calorie intake. Anemia resulting from an iron deficiency can be treated with iron supplements. Anemia resulting from chemotherapy is not easily treated with dietary iron.

Chemotherapy, though is a multi drug modern treatment for curing cancer, it has many side effects on the body. It may affect the vital organs function. It may also affect the kidneys, heart, eyesight and liver. No doubt, specialist doctors may be consulted for cancer treatment. However, when the takes the decision of chemotherapy treatment, it is better to seek second opinion. There are very effective alternative natural treatments are available. Apart from treating cancer, the natural treatment experts also concentrate on the health of the patient.Even though, the doctors treating cancer through chemotherapy set the deadline for the life of the patient, they have survived several years after this. On the other hand, the experts giving natural treatment for cancer cooperate with the patient and enjoy each stage of success.

Chemotherapy drugs for cancer are targeted to kill fast-growing cancer cells. In this process some of the healthy cells are also damaged that cause the side effects on chemotherapy treatment. Hair loss, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, loss of appetite, esophagitis, bleeding, infection, mouth sores, dry mouth, liver damage, heart damage, nerve damage, and/or lung damage are some of the short term side effects. Nerve damage, organ damage, gastrointestinal damage and blood in the urine are long term cancer chemotherapy side effects.

The side effects of chemotherapy treatment can be reduced by the following:

Ginger and caraway seed ease the cancer chemotherapy side effect-nausea. Fennel tea is also for reducing nausea. A piece of ginger in the mouth and chewing while taking chemotherapy treatment will reduce the side effects of chemotherapy.

Taking Vitamin E before cancer chemotherapy treatment will reduce hair loss. The effective way in controlling the side effects of cancer chemotherapy is Acupuncture. The use of thin, sterile acupuncture needles in certain points on the body reduces the cancer chemotherapy side effects such as nausea, vomiting, dry mouth and pain.
The pain or burning sensation in the stomach can be controlled by taking a spoon full of arrowroot or kudzu in six ounces of water.

Palifermin, an intravenous drug, is very helpful in preventing the mouth sores, the side effect of cancer chemotherapy.

Neutropenia, a common side effect of cancer chemotherapy can be reduced by taking Maitake, a Japan mushroom, which increases the white blood cells count..
An antioxidant called Alpha Lipoic Acid help ease the nerve death-neuropathy.
Reduced fat content food can help control diarrhea. Glutathione when given intravenously reduce the side effects of cancer chemotherapy such as diarrhea.

Vitamin B12, beet root juice, and shark liver oil can help reduce or prevent the cancer chemotherapy side effect anemia.

Regular Exercise can help relieve fatigue, nausea, anxiety, and a variety of other side effects.
Varumin is a complex mixture of pharmaceutically processed medicinal herbs. Varumin can be used as addition of standard therapy of some acute and chronic diseases and conditions that are characterized with compromised immunity and bad general state. Using of Varumin is advisable in multiple sclerosis, skin diseases, hypertension, diabetes and constipation. There is no possible risk of interactions if Varumin is used during the standard therapy of malignant diseases. Such usage is even advisable, to speed up the recovery process. Varumin can be used during and after chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and surgery of tumors. Components of Varumin are regulating body’s immune response, which makes the product suitable for treatment of other conditions. It is significantly increasing of appetite of the patient, and improving metabolism, blood test and easier managing with the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Varumin is salutary in a number of heavy infections, chronic diseases and immune-deficits statuses such as multiple sclerosis, diabetes, HIV, tuberculosis and post operation statuses. Varumin is a support remedy in cases of chemotherapy, radiant therapy, cytostatics and cortico-substances as well.

Foods such as ginger, garlic, tea, bee propolis, maca, turmeric and other spices has joined the ranks of potent anticancer effects. Antioxidants present in consumable fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins, amino acids and carotenes have received considerable attention in prevention and treatment of cancer.

Pancreatic has created a serious havoc in the recent past. It claimed the lives of nearly 10,000 American’s last year. So researchers are seriously trying to put a full stop to this. A committee was recently set up to diagnose the cause and effects of pancreatic cancer by the World Health Organization.

The pancreas is a gland which is about 6 inches and looks more like a thin pear lying on its side. The wider end of the pancreas is called the head, the middle part is called the body, and the narrow end is called the tail. The pancreas lies behind the stomach and in front of the spine. A cancer affecting the pancreas is called pancreatic cancer.

A recent study illustrated the fact that patients who underwent surgical removal of the pancreas through radiation therapy and chemotherapy afterwards showed better results .The chances of survival was better especially with chemotherapy.

Treating a person using radiation treatment followed by chemotherapy is called adjuvant treatment. Investigations revealed that 472 people have had complete removal of pancreas last year. People whose cancer spread beyond the pancreas are excluded from this study.

An important aspect about pancreatic cancer is that all the affected victims are over 55 years of age. Men are prone to this more than women.

African Americans are more likely to have this when compared to the whites. Smoking poses a great trouble and seriously affects the pancreas. Eating too much of meat may also affect the pancreas very badly. Overweight people are more prone to this type of cancer. This can make an easy entry into people with diabetes. Some chemicals such as certain bug sprays, dyes, or gasoline products may raise the risk of this cancer. It may also run into your next generation.

Some of the symptoms of pancreatic cancer are:

Pain in the belly is the most significant symptom of this type of cancer. Loss of apatite may also be a common problem with people suffering from pancreatic cancer. If the cancer blocks the release of the pancreatic juice into the intestine, problems such as trouble breaking down fat can result. Stools might be pale, bulky, greasy, and float in the toilet. Other problems may include nausea, vomiting, and pain that tend to be worse after eating. Finally it may lead to the enlargement of gall bladder. Early diagnosis is always helpful when coming to pancreatic cancer.
Curcumin has been a great field of interest for cancer researchers and it has been proved that in countries where curcumin is consumed cancer has been reduced by over 50%.

When curcumin was tested on melanoma cells it showed that Curcumin stops strains of melanoma from proliferating and also prevents apoptosis. The results were the same for high concentrations of Curcumin over short periods of time and smaller doses over longer periods of time.

A recent study showed that mice when given curcumin showed reduced results of tumor, the same was observed with colon cancer too. A similar study was carried out in 1985 on three groups of mice. They were injected with human cancer cells and the test was carried out. After 3 months of close study under lab conditions it showed that the mice were able to break free of cancer causing cells due to enhanced effect of curcumin.

Curcumin also has the ability to cure breast cancer. An ayurveda doctor in India showed that when curcumin as given to a breast cancer patient it prevented the further growth of cancer causing agents and prolonged treatment reduced cancer gradually.

This proved to be a great way of treating cancer without undergoing any surgeries. Unnecessary use of drugs can be avoided. Oral cancer mainly occurs due to excessive use of drugs. This type of cancer can be avoided by adopting natural methods of treatment like the use of curcumin.

An extensive research is being carried out in several countries across the globe to find new methods to cure cancer. The extensive use of drugs itself leads to growth of cancer cells. This has been the reason for more than 30 % of people who die of cancer.

Natural curing techniques have always proved to be better than the synthetic methods. They cure the disease and have no side effects on the human glands. This is really helpful owing to the fact that the synthetic drugs cause several malfunctions in the human glands.

Nowadays even people are more bent towards natural curing methods than the use of drugs. They have realized the value of natural curing agents. Finds like curcumin could be really useful with both its commercial and therapeutic value.

The prostate, a part of the male reproductive system, is about the same size and shape as a walnut and weighs about an ounce. It is located below the bladder and in front of the rectum, and surrounds the urethra, the tube-like structure that carries urine from the bladder out through the penis. The main function of the prostate is to produce ejaculatory fluid.

Prostate cancer is a significant health care problem due to its high incidence. It is the most common cancer in men. Prostate cancer is different from most cancers in that a large considerable percentage of men, particularly older men with a shorter life expectancy, may have a “silent form” of this cancer—it will not cause symptoms or spread beyond the prostate gland during their lifetime. Sometimes this cancer can be small, slow growing and present limited risk to the patient. Clinically important prostate cancers can be defined as those that threaten the well-being or life span of a man.

Although surgery and radiation therapy remove, destroy or damage cancer cells in a specific area, chemotherapy works throughout the body. Chemotherapy is the use of specific drugs that can destroy cancer cells. The drugs circulate throughout the body in the bloodstream and can kill any rapidly growing cells, including potentially non-cancerous ones. Chemotherapy drugs are carefully controlled in both dosage and frequency so that cancer cells are destroyed while the risk to healthy cells is minimized. Often, it is not the primary therapy for prostate cancer patients, but may be used when prostate cancer has spread outside of the prostate gland or in combination with other therapies.

Common side effects of chemotherapy depend on the type of drug used, dosage and length of treatment. The most common side effects are fatigue, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, hair loss and increased susceptibility to infection. To minimize the side effects, chemotherapy drugs are carefully monitored according to the amount and number of times they are administered by your physician. Supportive medication is also given to further help offset the side effects caused by the drugs. For instance, new drugs to prevent nausea and vomiting can minimize these side effects. Most side effects disappear once chemotherapy is stopped.

The drugs used for chemotherapy can be administered directly into a vein while others may be taken orally. Some of the drugs must be given in the doctor’s office or clinic; others can be administered while the patient is at home. Hospitalization is rarely needed unless side effects occur.

Several promising new anticancer drugs are under study and are being added to surgery or radiation therapy for men with stage III prostate cancer. Chemotherapy is also being tried in conjunction with hormone therapy for men whose advanced cancers are no longer responsive to hormonal therapy alone.

Historically, chemotherapy has not proven particularly effective against slow-growing prostate cancer cells. However recent studies show significant promise in advanced prostate cancer.

A number of interesting new drugs are being developed to combine with docetaxel. They include bevacizumab (Avastin), atrasentan (Xinlay) and calcitriol (DN 101) and GVAX In preliminary studies, each of these drugs, when combined with docetaxel, caused substantial PSA declines in more than 50 percent of men as well as symptomatic improvement in men with advanced disease. The four combined drug regimens are now being compared to docetaxel alone in four separate phase III clinical trials. All men with metastatic prostate cancer who are considering chemotherapy are encouraged to enter one of those 4 trials.

One of the most common causes of death from cancer for both men and women is Lung cancer. It occurs most commonly between the ages of 45 and 70. Lung cancer is more common in women now than in the past because more women are smoking cigarettes.

Lung cancer that originates in the cells of the lungs is called primary lung cancer; however, cancer may also spread (metastasize) to the lung from other parts of the body. Metastatic cancers spread to the lungs most commonly from the breast, colon, prostate, kidney, thyroid gland, stomach, cervix, rectum, testis, bone, and skin (melanoma).More than 90% of primary lung cancers start in the bronchi (the large airways that branch off the trachea to supply the lungs).

Cigarette smoking is the cause of about 90% of lung cancer cases in men and about 80% of cases in women. The greater the quantity and duration of smoking, the greater the risk of developing lung cancer. About 10 to 12% of all smokers eventually develop lung cancer.

A small proportion of lung cancers (about 10% in men and about 5% in women) are caused by substances encountered or breathed in at work. Working with asbestos, radiation, arsenic, chromates, nickel, chloromethyl ethers, mustard gas, and coke-oven emissions has been linked with lung cancer. The risk of contracting lung cancer is greater in people who are exposed to these substances and who also smoke cigarettes. Air pollution causes about 1% of lung cancer cases.

The symptoms of lung cancer depend on its type, its location, and the way it spreads. Usually, the first and most common symptom is a persistent cough. People with chronic bronchitis who develop lung cancer often notice that their coughing becomes worse. If a lung cancer grows into underlying blood vessels, it may cause severe bleeding.

A lung cancer may grow into the heart, causing abnormal heart rhythms, blockage of blood flow through the heart, or fluid in the pericardial sac surrounding the heart. Symptoms of lung cancer that usually arise later include loss of appetite, weight loss, fatigue, and weakness.

Lung cancer may also spread through the bloodstream to the liver, brain, adrenal glands, spinal cord, and bone; less commonly lung cancer may spread to other parts of the body.

Diagnosis

A doctor explores the possibility of lung cancer when a person, especially a smoker, has a persistent or worsening cough or other lung symptoms (such as shortness of breath or coughed-up sputum tinged with blood). Sometimes a shadow on a chest x-ray of someone with no symptoms provides the first clue, although a shadow on an x-ray is not proof of cancer. A chest x-ray can detect most lung tumors, although it may miss small ones.

A computed tomography (CT) may show small nodules that do not appear on chest x-rays. CT can also reveal whether the lymph nodes are enlarged; a biopsy of enlarged lymph nodes is often needed to determine if inflammation or cancer is responsible for the enlargement.

Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy, sometimes coupled with radiation therapy, is the treatment of choice for small cell carcinoma of the lung. This is because the cancer has almost always spread to distant parts of the body by the time of diagnosis. In about 25% of people, chemotherapy substantially prolongs survival. Without chemotherapy, only half of the people with small cell carcinoma survive 4 months. With chemotherapy, there is a four-to fivefold increase in survival. People with small cell carcinoma of the lung who have been responding well to chemotherapy may benefit from radiation therapy to the head to treat cancer that has spread to the brain, even though the spread is early enough that no symptoms are apparent and nothing abnormal can be seen on a CT or MRI of the head.

The effectiveness of chemotherapy alone is very limited for no small cell lung cancer. In metastatic no small cell lung cancer, some people survive significantly longer when given chemotherapy than if they had not received it.

There are variety of care settings wherein chemotherapy is administered. Most of the cancer patients receive systemic chemotherapy in an ambulatory care setting or in a day care unit designed to care for patients requiring lengthy infusions. Admission in Hospital is reserved for patients who require intensive monitoring or are acutely ill. The shift to outpatient ambulatory care services has grown out of the need for more efficient and economical health care.Exposure to cytotoxic drugs is known to be potentially hazardous to the health. Cytotoxic drugs may enter the body by three possible routes: Inhalation, Ingestion and Skin contact. These are most likely to occur with injectable agents during either their preparation or administration. Therefore, to prevent the risk, adequate precautions must be taken by a pharmacist while admixturing chemo drugs.

Adequate precautions must be taken during admixture of cytotoxic drugs.

Wear latex powder free long cuff gloves while preparing chemotherapy drugs. Wear a gown that is low or non-permeable, long sleeve, cuffed and solid fronted and use aerosols free mask. Work over a suitable container to prevent the spread of any spillage. Prevent high pressure being generated inside sealed vials - when fluids are introduced an equivalent volume of air should be withdrawn or a venting needle with a hydrophobic filter may be used if available.

Ampoules should be directed away from the face and covered with a suitable pad or cotton when broken open. Diluent fluids should be introduced slowly into open-ended ampoules or vials, running it down the vessel wall and ensuring the drug powder is moist before shaking. When excess air is expelled from a filled syringe it should be exhausted into a pad and not straight into the atmosphere. If excess drug is to be expelled from a filled syringe it should be removed first and sterile cotton wool placed over the end of the syringe to prevent possible scatter of aerosol droplets. Luer lock fittings should be used in preference to push connections on syringes, tubing and I.V. sets. Label all prepared bottles and it is mandatory. Admix all cytotoxic drugs in biological safety cabinet (laminar air flow) that meets standards and it is inspected appropriately. Check the reconstitute or diluents for the particular drug and the concentration in which it is to be reconstituted.

A checklist must be kept ready before preparing the cytotoxic drugs. Name of the drug, company name, active salt, strength, expiry date, Patient name, age and patient ID number, number of chemotherapy cycle, approximate cost of the drug, Drug delivery route and access devices. The other things to be kept in mind are Solvent and its concentration in which it is to be mix, Infusion or diluent fluids (D5%W / NS / RL / DNS) with which to be mixed, Availability of drug delivery access and Cross marking of the pack and label of the vial / ampoule. Drug dose is to be administered according to body surface area and body weight.

Proper disposable management should be done. All the waste materials like syringe, needle, mask and gloves should be disposed carefully in cytotoxic disposal bags. Changes of gloves and mask should be done after each admixture process. The syringes should also change after each drug admixing. A standard procedure is to be made and followed for disposals of waste materials. The disposal bags should print with cytotoxic drug. Cytotoxic waste is highly hazardous and should never be land filled or discharged into the sewerage system. Disposal options include the following: Safely packaged but outdated drugs and drugs that are no longer needed should be returned to the supplier. This is currently the preferred option for countries that lack the facilities for incineration. Drugs that have been unpacked should be repackaged in a manner as similar as possible to the original packaging and marked “outdated” or “not for use”.

Full destruction of all cytotoxic substances may require temperatures up to 1200°C; Incineration at lower temperatures may result in the release of hazardous cytotoxic vapours into the atmosphere. The cytotoxic admixture should be done by a proper procedure in all the cancer institutes. This is the area where the pharmacist can utilise his knowledge of pharmaceutics. Working with cytotoxic drugs requires adequate knowledge and skill. Chemo drugs are very toxic for which proper care and precautions is to be taken while handling, preparing, administering and disposing.

One or more of drugs are used under Chemotherapy treatment to kill cancer cells. The anticancer drugs work by stopping the division and reproduction of cancer cells.

Chemotherapy may be used to:

During chemotherapy, drugs enter the bloodstream and travel throughout the body, so it is known as systemic therapy. Combination chemotherapy is when more than one drug is used at a time.

Chemotherapy is given by:

Chemotherapy is often given in cycles with rest times in between to allow the body to regain strength.
When most people think of chemotherapy, they immediately think of troubling side effects such as nausea and hair loss. Fortunately there are many treatments to prevent or counteract the side effects that are most disturbing to cancer patients. Anti-nausea drugs may be given as a preventative measure to help with sour stomach and vomiting. Good oral hygiene including brushing with a soft toothbrush and flossing 3 times a day may help to prevent mouth sores and irritation.

Many chemotherapy drugs can cause diarrhea and constipation. With either side effect, it is important to drink plenty of water to either replace fluids lost, or to make stool pass more easily through the colon. Anti-diarrheals are not usually given as a preventative measure, but may be prescribed if troubling digestive problems persist.

After a cycle of chemotherapy, the doctor may want to follow-up with various tests to track the effectiveness of the treatment. Blood tests and X-rays are just two of the tests that may be used during follow up doctor visits to track the cancer and make further decisions on treatment. Chemotherapy is often used effectively in conjunction with other treatments such as surgery and radiation to send cancer into remission.
